Welcome to North Star Elementary

Welcome Back From Principal Daniel Merfeld

I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of North Star Elementary School. My name is Dan Merfeld and I come to North Star with twenty years of experience in education, previously serving as a teacher, coach, and principal. I am thrilled to become a part of the North Star community and anticipate continuing the great work that’s already happening with the great staff in the building. As everyone returns for the new school year, I look forward to welcoming new and returning students and staff to the building. We have a very highly-qualified, veteran staff here at North Star.

As I begin meeting the students and families of the North Star community, please know that my door is always open and I encourage you all to come introduce yourself to help me to get to know you and your family.

North Star Elementary is proud to offer a well-rounded education in a state-of-the-art building with beautiful grounds. Our staff are well-known for supporting their students academically, socially, and emotionally. Everyone in the building is hard at work preparing safe, engaging classrooms that are full of opportunities for all students. North Star Elementary provides opportunities for all learners to feel both challenged and inspired as they grow, and we strive to have every student reach their potential. Every student matters in our school, and I am excited to get to know your students this school year.

Community involvement continues to be a vital part of success for all students. The partnership between the school and home is vital, and I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with you and support your child’s growth. Whether it’s volunteering in the building or on School Forest trips, attending events, or staying connected through conversations at home, your involvement makes a lasting impact. Together, we will continue on the path of excellence by encouraging our students to take responsibility for their learning and actions, while striving to be their very best.

Leading this school community is truly a privilege, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to know the daily routines here at North Star. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead at North Star—let’s make it our best one yet!

Sincerely,

Dan Merfeld
Principal, North Star Elementary

The Rock Ridge School Board approved the outlined self-transport zone around North Star Elementary in Virginia. With the guidance of routing consultants and administration, students residing within the boundary will walk or self-transport to the new North Star Elementary. The reason for this self transport zone is to address bus driver shortages that are being experienced in the district.
